8th Grade Graduation 2009
On June 1st, at 7:00 PM, the eighth grade class of Our Lady of Grace School took one last deep breathe before their graduation ceremony. As Pomp and Circumstance played, the seventeen young men and women processed into church to join their parents, families, many visitors, teachers, and Parish Staff. The class had chosen the theme: “Standing up for what we believe by staying true to God.” The readings, gospel, songs, and Father Nicholas’ homily centered on this theme. During the service each student proudly accepted their diploma from Father Nicholas. Four students were recognized for outstanding academic achievement. Alex F. received a four year scholarship to Gilman. Mary Kate S. was awarded a laptop for academic accomplishments. Tyler Mae F., who became a Theresian Scholar, was given an academic scholarship to the Institute of Notre Dame. Alex M., who will attend Loyola High School, was also accepted into McMullen Scholars at Calvert Hall.
Each graduate shared their thank yous to the important people in their lives who made it possible for them to attend Our Lady of Grace School. The parents were told how much their children appreciated all that they had done. Sister Helen Wiegmann, the founding principal, was presented with a pink carnation out of great respect for the outstanding education and spiritual guidance she had given to each student. These young men and women were mere kindergarteners when Sister Helen opened the doors of Our Lady of Grace School.
After the graduation, the group enjoyed congratulations and good fellowship. The sixth grade class provided refreshments. A wonderful evening to say, “Good luck in high school!”
